Utah's Snowbird Ski Resort Hosts Freeride Avalanche Summit, Dec. 17-18

SNOWBIRD, UT – Snowbird Ski Resort and the Utah Avalanche Center are partnering to offer the first annual Freeride Avalanche Summit, Dec. 17-18. The two-day clinic targets advance and expert skiers and riders who want practical and professional instruction on avalanche awareness, safety and rescue.

The Freeride Avalanche Summit will include a unique blend of instruction that combines the expertise of industry leading avalanche forecasters with the experience and influence of local, professional athletes. Expected participants include:

Members of the UAC and Colorado Avalanche Information Center
Snowbird Ski Patrol and Snow Safety
Jim Conway, lead guide for Teton Gravity Research
Jeremy Nobis, professional skier
Gordy Pfeiffer, professional skier
Jenn Berg, professional skier
Brant Moles, professional skier
Wasatch Powderbird Guides

“With the increase in backcountry and sidecountry traffic, it’s more important than ever to offer tangible and affordable avalanche instruction to hard-charging skiers and riders,” said UAC Forecaster and Freeride Avalanche Summit founder Craig Gordon. “This Summit brings together an awesome group of leading forecasters along with some of the best winter athletes in Utah.”

The Freeride Avalanche Summit offers more than 20 hours of classroom and on-mountain instruction during the two-day session. Topics include snowpack analysis, terrain assessment, first aid techniques, emergency notification procedures and more along with ski patrol briefings and actual line selection sessions with professional athletes.

The Summit costs $150 and is limited to 40 participants; discounted lift tickets of $36/day will also be offered to non-passholders for the on-mountain portion of the program. Snowbasin Joins Breckenridge Ski Resort and Mount Snow Ski Resort for Tour’s Second Season

Burr Ridge, Ill. – July 13, 2009 – The Winter Dew Tour, the world’s premier season-long winter action sports tour, today announced the host resorts and dates for the three stops of the 2009-10 season. The Winter Dew Tour showcases the top winter athletes from around the world competing in freeskiing (slopestyle and superpipe) and snowboarding (slopestyle and superpipe) for both men and women. The Tour begins at Breckenridge Ski Resort in Breckenridge, Colo., Dec. 18-20, 2009, continues at new host resort, Snowbasin, in Huntsville, Utah, Jan. 15-17, 2010 and concludes at Mount Snow Resort in West Dover, Vt., Feb. 5-7, 2010.

All three stops of the Winter Dew Tour will be televised Live on NBC and simulcast around the world on Eurosport 2, Extreme Channel and Fox Sports Australia, with additional coverage on USA Network and MTV2.

“The inaugural season of the Winter Dew Tour brought top notch freeskiing and snowboarding action sports competitions to some of the most beautiful resorts in the country,” said Chris Prybylo, Vice President of Events for Alli, the Alliance of Action Sports. “With the addition of Snowbasin, we look forward to building on the success we had last season and continuing to give fans and athletes alike a great experience.”

“We’ve been waiting for something like the Winter Dew Tour to come around and it was so fun competing on it last season,” said Tanner Hall, 2008-09 Dew Cup Champion in Freeskiing Slopestyle. “The level of talent was huge and I was stoked to take home the Dew Cup. Can’t wait to see what this season will bring.”

Entering its second season, the Winter Dew Tour had nearly 70,000 fans experience last year’s inaugural season and an average of 26 million viewers tuned in via NBC, USA and MTV2 during 2008-09. The top athletes in the world will take part in this year’s Tour, all competing for the highly coveted Dew Cup that will be awarded in Mount Snow, Vt. at season’s end. The ’08-’09 Dew Cup champions include Shaun White (Snowboard Pipe and Slopestyle), Kelly Clark (Snowboard Pipe), Spencer O’Brien (Snowboard Slopestyle), PK Hunder (Freeski Slopestyle) and Tanner Hall (Freeski Superpipe).
